Freetown, August 20, 2026 — The newly appointed Commissioner General of the National Revenue Authority (NRA), Abu Martin Kanneh has outlined a leadership approach built on teamwork and transparency as he takes the helm of the institution he has served for over two decades. During his vetting before the Appointment Committee, CG voluntarily declared his assets and those of his family, a move the Leader of Government Business described as a novelty for public appointees. Speaking on his leadership style, CG said he believes firmly in collective effort, noting that "in terms of challenges, it's essential to get your team working," and that he is prepared to lead from the front or the back depending on what circumstances demand.
On the operational front, CG signaled a targeted approach to closing revenue gaps, pointing to the informal sector as an area where leakages are most prone and pledging heightened attention there. He also committed to boosting compliance with the Goods and Services Tax (GST) through greater staff engagement and public awareness campaigns, while addressing emerging problems by first identifying the affected area and reinforcing engagement around it. The Ministry of Finance has proposed a performance contract to guide his tenure, and colleagues within the Authority have reportedly welcomed his appointment with strong optimism, with one describing it as having received "the largest accolades from your colleagues," reflecting confidence that his leadership will translate into improved revenue performance for Sierra Leone.
