Students from the Nigerian Defence College (NDC), led by Air Commodore E.O. Oludicun, visited the National Revenue Authority (NRA) in Sierra Leone as part of a study tour to explore the extractive industry’s contribution to national development. Air Commodore Oludicun explained that the visit aimed to deepen their understanding of how the extractive sector supports the country’s growth and the critical role played by the Extractive Industry Revenue Unit (EIRU) in revenue collection and management.
During the visit, Director of Human Resources Dora N. Tucker, speaking on behalf of the Commissioner General, highlighted the strong cultural ties and collaborative relationship between Nigeria and Sierra Leone. She acknowledged the hospitality of the Sierra Leonean people, particularly towards Nigerians, whose support was instrumental in ending the civil war.
The Assistant Commissioner for EIRU at NRA Abu B. Tarawalie provided practical insights into the collection of taxes, royalties, and levies from mining activities, emphasizing their importance as key inputs for Sierra Leone’s economic development.
