Job Title:         Assistant Commissioner, Anti Smuggling Unit

REPORT TO:   Commissioner, Customs Service Department

Responsible For:    All Staff in the Customs Service Department below the rank of Assistant Commissioner

Key Tasks/Responsibilities:

  1. Report to the Commissioner -General on anti-smuggling surveillance and intelligence operations and policy implementation
  2. Design operational and policy guidelines for all staff of the unit
  3. Monitor the implementation of the operational and policy guidelines and ensure compliance by staff
  4. Provide management support to staff with a view to facilitate their work during operations
  5. Provide technical advice to issues relating to procedures, legislation and policies
  6. Set performance indicators/targets for the manager, supervisor and staff of the various units against deadlines
  7. Prepare weekly, monthly report on the general operations of the department for the attention of the Commissioner of Customs
  8. Perform any other function assigned to him/her by the Commissioner- General

  1. Demonstrate a high degree of professional, administrative competencies;
  2. Ability to manage human and financial resources;
  3. Proven knowledge in revenue collection
  4. Ability and skills to deal with difficult taxpayers
  5. Evidence of analytical skills and ability to manage critical issues under pressure;
  6. High ethical standard and integrity;
  7. Knowledge and hands-on experience in the  use of computer application packages such as Ms. Word, Excel and Access;
  8. Effective communication skills
  9.  High team spirit

 

Education/Experience 

A minimum of a Bachelors  Degree in Accounting, Economics, Public Finance or related field of study, with at least six (6) years working experience in Public Finance Management in a Customs environment. Advance degree is an added advantage.

 

Nationality

Candidates must be a Sierra Leonean
