NRA Engages Commercial Banks in First Revenue Collection Partnership Meeting

In a bid to strengthen partnership, collaboration and coordination between revenue collection partners and the National Revenue Authority (NRA), the Commissioner General and her team have on Wednesday 29th January 2025 convened a high-level dialogue session with the key leadership of major commercial banks operating in the country.
The event which took place at the New Brookfields Hotel, Jomo Kenyatta Road, Freetown served to express deep appreciation for the crucial role these banks play in supporting the NRA’s mandate of revenue collection while exploring opportunities for deeper collaboration in advancing tax compliance initiatives.

Top executives from various commercial banks including Rokel Commercial Bank, Union Trust Bank, Ecobank, United Bank of Africa, Access Bank, Vista Bank, Skye Bank, Bloom Bank, Commerce & Mortgage Bank, Zenith Bank and First Bank.
“Commercial banks provide invaluable support in facilitating tax collection and compliance. This is much appreciated by the NRA" the Commissioner General, Jeneba J. Bangura remarked at the start of the session.

The session and discussions further focused on strengthening system integration for seamless revenue collection, swift processing and accurate recording of transactions, and efficient transfer of payments to the Consolidated Fund. Participants shared insights on best practices and innovative solutions to enhance tax compliance, reinforcing the need for a transparent and efficient tax system.
Looking ahead, the NRA and the commercial banks committed to updating the existing Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) or establishing a Service Level Agreement (SLA) to formalize ongoing collaboration. This partnership may include joint training programs in Information and Communication Technology (ICT), workshops, and taxpayer education campaigns aimed at improving compliance among taxpayers. The meeting concluded with valuable experience sharing on digital tax administration reforms and recommendations for system improvements.
