Advertisement for the Recruitment of Domestic Tax Preparers

The National Revenue Authority (NRA) in collaboration with the Revenue and Tax Policy Division (RTPD) of the Ministry of Finance (MOF) is inviting application from suitably qualified Sierra Leoneans to serve as Domestic Tax Preparers in the Domestic Tax Preparers Scheme (DTPS) for Small and Micro Enterprises (SME) taxpayers in order to improve on their tax compliance status.
The offices of the tax preparers will be located in Freetown, and each Provincial headquarter town of BO, Makeni and Kenema.

Qualification:
Applicants should hold any of the following qualifications:

  • A holder of first degree or its equivalent or higher qualification in any of the following fields of study: Accounting, Economics, Business Management, Commerce, Law, Taxation or any related field of discipline.
  • Higher National Diploma or its equivalent.
  • Part qualified or fully qualified member of a Recognized Supervisory Body such as ACCA, ACA, CIMA, etc.

Experiences and Key Competencies;

  • Ability to read and write good English
  • Computer literacy and must have a laptop computer
  • Knowledge in tax reforms and regional tax issues related to SMEs
  • Experience in Sierra Leone Tax Systems and Administration or any related revenue generation function.
  • Ability to demonstrate a high standard of integrity and positive attitude towards work.

Note: Former NRA Officials with a minimum of ten years tax administration experience that have served in a minimum capacity as managers are also encouraged to apply.

An entrance examination will be conducted, and a one-month training will be undertaken after the recruitment process.

 

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Prepare revenue estimates based on the provisions in the Income Tax Act 2000 as relating to SMEs and other related tax legislations.
  • Liaise with SMEs to ensure that quarterly installments and other taxes are paid and on time.
  • Work with SMEs to amend estimates within the year as and when possible.
  • Ensure that SMEs annual and periodic returns are filed on time and payments made accordingly.
  • Work closely with SMEs on all issues bordering on tax compliance.
  • Assist and support the Authority on tax educational activities to ensure that SMEs are accessed wherever they are (country-wide).
  • Assist in identifying and locating new taxpayers and ensuring that they are always maintained in the taxpayer register and that they receive TIN and comply with all the on-going reforms in domestic tax administration.
  • Assist in tax surveys and field exercises.
  • Assist taxpayers in handling objection and appeal issues.
  • Provision of information on businesses and related parties in order to support tax compliance and administration.
  • Any other tasks that will support increased compliance by SMEs in meeting their tax obligations under various legislations as administered by the NRA.
