NRA Commissioner General and Cross Section of Senior Management Team enforces ECR Installation and Usage.

Following the enactment of the ECR Regulations of 2021, the Commissioner-General has commenced a shop-to-shop verification of the installation of ECR Machines along major streets in Freetown. According to Dr. Samuel S. Jibao, the Authority has installed slightly over 3,000 Machines but has noticed a very high user apathy from Business people in Freetown.
As part of its plans for 2022, the NRA will intensify its enforcement drive to ensure all revenue enhancement systems are fully deployed and used by taxpayers. The exercise was not devoid of resistance as a store with the business name "Beauty Star" of 7 Siaka Stevens Street was sealed off for failing to have installed the ECR Machine before the deadline announced by the Commissioner-General which was on 30th November, 2021. An anonymous person linked to Beauty Star earlier called an NRA staff giving them a strong warning to stop visiting the said store on ECR Installation issues which the Authority interprets as impeding tax administration which is also clearly against the law.
It could be recalled that the NRA issued a series of public notices asking businesses to contact the Authority to install the machines. The exercise is expected to continue within the coming months as the Authority beefs up compliance across businesses in the country.
